Top DBU Professors

As a tribute to my time at Dallas Baptist University, here is a list of some of the professors that had a huge impact on my life. To any current DBU student, these are my recommendations.

1.  Dr. William Bell (Biblical Hermeneutics, Systematic Theology I & II, Greek Exegesis, Eschatology, and other electives)  Simply put, Dr. Bell is the man.  Hands down.  No question about it.  I came to DBU to study under him and I was not disappointed.

2.  Dr. Davey Naugle (Intro to Philosophy, Philosophy of Religion, Christian Worldview, etc.)  I don't think any other professor has impacted DBU as a whole like Dr. Naugle, and with good reason.  If they were smart, they'd listen to him a lot more.  Champion of the Christian Worldview.  Understand and integrate this man's philosophy and your life will not be the same.

3.  Dr. Mike Williams (American Church History, Renaissance and Reformation, Baptist History, etc.)  Dr Williams knows his history backward and forward and he's one of the nicest men you'll ever meet in your life.

4.  Prof. Todd Kappelman (History of Philosophy I & II)  By far the most quotable professor I've ever had.  You've missed out if you leave DBU without taking at least one class from Prof. Kappelman.

5.  Dr. Tim Trammell (New Testament I & II, Intermediate Greek I & II)

6.  Prof. Jamie Lash (Foundations for Excellence, Christian Leadership)  Would anybody get the respect they deserve teaching the required freshman orientation class?  I doubt it.  Prof. Lash sure doesn't.  However, this past semester, I've had several conversations with seniors who went through Foundations with me who all commented that it was amazing how much they remembered form the class and how useful it now is to them.

7.  Dr. Aaron Son (Research & Writing for Biblical Studies, other Biblical Studies classes)  Dr. Son is tough, but he knows his stuff.  I would feel a whole lot more prepared for seminary after taking his Research & Writing Class.  I wish I could have taken a few more classes with him, but we all run out of time eventually!

Top DBU Classes

In addition to my list of Top Professors, I wanted to make a list of my favorite classes from my time at DBU.  Of course, I cannot speak for classes I have not taken.  So, of the classes I've had, these are the ones I felt were the most helpful.

1.  Biblical Hermeneutics (Dr. Bell)  Do not leave DBU without taking this class!  In the classroom!  The video class is not as good, but video would be better than nothing.

2.  Greek Exegesis (Dr. Bell) To all Greek students: Do NOT quit Greek after your second year if at all possible!

3.  American Church History (Dr. Williams)

4.  Renaissance and Reformation (Dr. Williams)

5.  Systematic Theology I (Dr. Bell)

6.  History of Philosophy I: Ancient & Medieval (Prof.  Kappelman)

7.  Systematic Theology II (Dr. Bell)

8.  Baptist History (Dr. Williams)

9.  Research and Writing for Biblical Studies (Dr. Son)

10.  Philosophy of Religion (Dr. Naugle)
